The Science and Technology Park (STP) a component of the East London Industrial Development Zone (EL IDZ) has been established to contribute towards increasing the competitive and comparative advantages of the zone as an investment destination, through the utilisation of innovation.

The EL IDZ STP has established the Design Centre to assist entrepreneurs, researchers and industry in rapid prototyping. The facility offers prototype support services, through laser cutting and engraving, 3D printing and machine milling. The Design Centre also provides training on:

AutoCAD, 3D Printing, Laser Cutting and Machining (desktop and CNC Lathe)

3D PRINTING:

The 3D printing process allows the creation of parts and/or tools through additive manufacturing at rates much lower than traditional machining. The centre has a number of 3D printers and expertise to assist with making sure your product has the desired end result.

LASER CUTTING / ENGRAVING:

The laser cutter / engraver allows for intricate detail to be applied to a number of materials such as wood, acrylic, plastics and metals. From single “once-off” items, to large production runs, personalizing & branding of items to producing a creative master piece.

CNC LATHE MACHINING:

CNC lathe machines are machine tools which are used for the shaping of metal and other solid materials. To form the finished part, the cutting process can be started from a solid block, pre-machined part, casting or forgings. The centre has expertise and a machine operator to assist in creating the perfect final product.
